Help Me Bike to Alaska!

2013-05-06 19.20.37

Next summer, I’ll be biking from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska with Texas 4000 to raise money & awareness for cancer research!

But first: Every member of the team must raise at least $4,500. That’s a dollar per mile ridden!  Donations of all sizes are always greatly appreciated!

The three routes.

The three routes.

SO… WHY ARE YOU RIDING TO ALASKA?
I’m a member of the 2014 LIVESTRONG Texas 4000 for Cancer ride team. Texas 4000 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aims to fight cancer by spreading hope, knowledge, and charity.

ABOUT THE RIDE
On May 31st of 2014, the team will embark on a 4,500-mile bike ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska, the longest charity bike ride in the world. We will divide our ranks and head up through the Sierras, the Rockies, and the Ozarks, to connect with as many communities as possible.

Each day of our 10 week journey, our mission is to inspire hope by listening to those affected by this disease and riding in their honor. We will share knowledge about about cancer prevention and early detection through our cancer awareness presentations. Finally, we wish to promote charity towards research that will lead to innovative treatments.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
Since its foundation in 2004, Texas 4000 has raised more than $3 million, which have funded cancer research projects at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the UT Biomedical Engineering Department, and survivorship programs at the LIVESTRONG Cancer Navigation Center. The organization is run by mostly by UT students, with the assistance of passionate volunteers and two staff members. Money raised goes toward research for a cure, cancer prevention and patient support programs. Over the next year, we hope to raise $500,000.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Our riders plan the routes, find host families, and prepare the cancer programs. We dedicate our time, energy, and muscle to this battle, but none of this could be possible without your help. Each rider must raise at least $4,500—a dollar per mile ridden.

Great challenges lay ahead for our team, but families dealing with cancer endure greater challenges every day. This disease has certainly left a lasting impact on my own family. I ride for my grandmother, Rose Kang, who passed away after a long battle with lymphoma in 2010.

Together, we can help end cancer. I am grateful for your support and look forward to hearing from you.

Yours in the fight against cancer,

Jasmine Mills
